Lecture Program & Film Series: #8 Documentaries #9 Adaptation, Transcription, & Biography

Documentaries:

Below lists the various approaches to documentary filmmaking. These initially seemed obscure, but characterising documentary examples is effortless once you use the bullet points under each different 'mode'. Other formats of the documentary include:
  • Shockumentary - This format showcases explicit imagery, gore and violence to shock and entice audiences. For example, Grizzly Man (2005).
  • Docudrama - Fact and fiction combined, this format narrates true events through a theatrical filter. For Example, 127 Hours (2010).

Adaptation, Transcription, & Biography

Below is a discussion on adaptation, narrative transcription and biographical films. From abstraction to time-based storytelling.
Biographical films, such as Schindler's List (1993), are a combination of documentary, adaptation and transcription.
