Storyboard workshop
The aim of this storyboard workshop was to develop my professional understanding of this industry-level planning technique. I found the tasks extremely useful, since much of it involved pre-existing media, allowing me to practice and experiment on other ideas before incorporating my own.
- The importance of aspect ratio was outlined; on a storyboard, all boxes must commit to a standard size. For example, 2001: A Space Odyssey uses 2.35:1.
- Despite the strictness with box sizes, I shouldn't be afraid to draw outside them, make it clear that these stories carry on outside the frame.
- Arrows should be used as a language e.g Fat arrows could relate to camera movement and thin arrows could represent character movement.
A Prose Storyboard consists of text instead of drawings. They describe transitions, camera movement and a general description of a shot.
A Like For Like Storyboard works backwards; the objective is to create a storyboard from an existing piece of media e.g a film.
