Fantastic Voyage - Matte Painting #4

This fourth matte painting is simple, as the focus of these scenes will be on the 3D models that will be visible over this flat image, the basidium. Hopefully, the blue colour palette won't disturb the models, as these will also be a variation of blue. The colour palette is supposed to demonstrate the location, the inside of the blue mushroom (which will be revealed earlier in my animation).
During my style and theme research, I noticed that scratchy lines were a common background texturing method in graphic novels, and this is where I took inspiration for this piece. I experimented with including comic 'dots' in a dark blue colour, but it distorted the black linework and made the image too cluttered. This images simplicity will make it easy to adjust if I'm unhappy with it's look in my pre-vis.

Examples of 'scratchy' linework from the graphic novel "A Study In Scarlet".
